Ashford HSM 323 Week 3 Discussion 1 Domestic vs. International Terror Threats to the United States

International vs. Domestic Terrorism in the United States. 1st Post Due by Day 3. Terrorism that originates within the United States and is committed by American citizens is a facet of our history that has often been overlooked. Following the September 11, 2001, attack on the United States, perpetrated by Al Qaeda, discussions of terrorism have tended to focus on those incidents that stem from groups with ties to Middle East extremists. For this discussion, you will look at terrorist acts and groups that are considered homegrown as well as those that are international. In your initial post,

• Describe in your own words the differences and similarities between domestic and international terrorism.
• Select a group that facilitates (or has facilitated) domestic terrorist actions.

o Describe, briefly, their goals and actions.
• Select a group that facilitates (or has facilitated) international terrorist actions within the United States.

o Describe, briefly, their goals and actions.

• Based on your research, provide an opinion as to whether domestic terrorism is a viable threat to the stability of the United States. Support your reasoning.
• Based on your research, provide as to whether domestic terrorism or international terrorism is a greater threat to the stability of the United States. Explain your reasoning.

Guided Response: Your initial post is due by Day 3 and must be at least 250 words in length. You must utilize a minimum of three scholarly or credible sources, including one scholarly source from the Ashford University Library in your post. The Scholarly, Peer Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources table offers additional guidance on appropriate source types. Review several of your classmates’ posts and provide substantive responses, including examples, to at least three of your peers by Day 7. At least one of your peer responses must be to peers who selected different groups than you did. Continue to monitor the discussion forum until 5:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time (MST) on Day 7 of the week and respond to anyone who replies to your posts.
