• Reflect: The Indian independence movement was one of the first to develop in the colonial world. This was due in large part to the development of a middle class within Indian society that worked within British Empire while attempting to restrain it. Gandhi was not the first to advocate for Home Rule (which would have turned India into a self-governing entity in the British Empire like Canada), but his reflection here gives the movement a voice. Still, despite such eloquent defenses, it was not until after WWII that many of these nationalist movements were successful—why might that have been? 

• Write: In an initial post of at least 250-300 words, reflect on Gandhi’s words advocating for Home Rule. What did Home Rule mean for native peoples and colonizing forces? How did the Second World War impact empire? Cite required or recommended sources to substantiate your positions. Use the following questions to guide your response:
