DNR and Water Resources

State and federal agencies in the United States play a significant role in protecting and preserving the environment.  The mission statement of Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reads: “The Department of Natural Resources leads Maryland in securing a sustainable future for our environment, society, and economy by preserving, protecting, restoring, and enhancing the State’s natural resources.” 

Please visit Maryland’s DNR website at http://www.dnr.maryland.gov/waters/  and spend a little time reviewing some of the projects and activities that the DNR is involved with, particularly those related to the protection of water resources (rivers, streams & groundwater).  Once you have done this, please describe and discuss some of the ways you think DNR is (or is not) fulfilling their mission statement to ‘secure a sustainable future for our environment.’
